It has been founded in 1996 in order to protect the area of Cornate. It covers a surface of 1000 hectares and stretches over woods, fields and marshes. Endangered species, like the falcon or the bittern, are living here. There are also many birds, building their nest in the oasis, like the buzzard, the kestrel, the hoopoe, the owl, the skylark and the penduline tit. It is also possible to find the wild goose, the harrier, the flamingo, the snipe and the mallard. How to reach it: from Grosseto take Aurelia street northward. Exit Giuncarico, then go on to Montemassi and to Fornaci. After the bridge on Merse turn left towards Montieri. Go on to Gerfalco; once you have reached the village, turn left. For further information please contact the municipal office of Montieri (0566/997722).
